Nature Activism: Acting on Behalf of Life

The most fundamental law of Nature is our collective interdependence – every thing depends on everything else for its existence.  We are made from the raw elements of life, and will surely return to them.  Because of this intrinsic interconnectivity, a second law naturally emerges: Nature is always involved in the process of sharing.  Knowing it’s fundamental interdependence, it gives of itself freely.

We too are Nature.  And an essential part of the practice of Natural Mindfulness is the spirit of generosity.  Nature provides us with so much, including deep and healing insights.  Having acknowledged all we’ve received, we are naturally are drawn to return the gift, to act on behalf of Nature itself.

This understanding and this giving, however, must extend beyond the plants and animals of Nature.  To realize and practice our interdependence, it must also include our fellow human beings, especially those who are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation.   This is called environmental justice, and is the movement to address the unequal impacts of pollution, climate change, food scarcity, etc. on marginalized groups – both through improving conditions for those people and by making a cleaner world for everyone.

Below is an evolving list of local organizations around the Eugene and Portland area that are already engaged in this process of giving back (we welcome more suggestions).  Thank you to these groups!  Please consider donating and volunteering.  Mimic nature and reconnect yourself to the natural flow of generosity!
